In order to add new Benchmarks to a Dataset, the program must be run in Advanced mode.
-
Right-click in the blank space inside the Benchmarks tab and select New > Benchmark.
-
In the Create New Benchmark window, enter a Name for the benchmark.
-
In AVEVA Point Cloud Manager Position, you can either manually enter the position or select from the From Point section. Here you will see any point or tie-in measurements in the project that you can use to set the benchmark position.
-
Double-click on the point measurement or tie-in you wish to create the benchmark on. This fills in the x,y,z position fields for you.
-
After you have filled in the fields, you can select Save and New to save that benchmark and create a new one. The benchmark information is then displayed in the attributes window.
Importing project benchmarks
To import benchmarks to Point Cloud Manager:
-
Right-click in the blank space inside the Benchmarks tab and select Import to this browser.
-
In the browser window that appears, browse to locate the survey file. Files should be of .crd format, and of the same format as survey files (that is, benchmark name, x, y, z with no spaces/other text at the top or bottom of the file).
Important: You should only open files from a trustworthy source.
-
Browse for the file, and select Open. You will be presented with a name filter. This is used to display only specific types of recorded point from the survey file, such as if your survey contains site benchmark information and laser scan targets, only the relevant benchmarks are displayed.
The benchmark display window will list all added site points. Each time a user selects one of the listed benchmarks, the name and coordinates are shown in the panel below.

-
Double-click on a benchmark to view the position in the 3D window.
Additionally, by selecting Add the user can introduce more fixed benchmarks by typing in the name and position. These need manual editing and clicking return to confirm change. The benchmark is coloured differently (red) to highlight that it is an additional fixed point.
