Switch to steering mode

This is the default flight mode when viewing HyperBubble and Solid Point Cloud data. However, you may switch to a different flight mode at any time by selecting the Rotate, Translate or Pick buttons on the Control Toolbar.

To set the flying to steering mode:

  1. Select the button shown below.

    Steering mode icon

  2. Then, left-click and hold to move the dataset either sideways or forward/backward. The rate at which the data moves is determined by the distance the mouse has moved from the selected point.

After moving forward, if you hold the mouse stationary with the left button pressed down, movement will continue until you release the button. There is a minimum movement of the mouse that must be exceeded for the view to move at all.

The rate at which the viewpoint moves depends on the option selected under File > Options > Project > Steering Moving Speed. For example, if the Steering Moving Speed selected is Walking/Average Car, the dataset moves at a slower pace. If the Running/High Speed Train option is selected, you can fly through large areas of the dataset at a faster rate.

  3. To move the dataset along the vertical axis, click and hold the middle mouse button. To zoom the dataset in and out, scroll the mouse wheel.

If you move the mouse left or right with the left button pressed down and simultaneously move either forward or backward, a combined move and rotate will take place.

To achieve a simultaneous forward and vertical movement, use the left and right mouse buttons together.

To level your view so that you are looking at the horizon, press the space bar.

To move the mouse forwards and backwards to change your elevation vertically, click and hold the right mouse button.

The following table lists out the movements that you can achieve with the arrow keys on your keyboard:
