AVEVA™ Point Cloud Manager

Registration

  • Last UpdatedOct 24, 2025
  • 6 minute read

The first step to register scans is to create a Point Cloud Manager project to which the scans can be added. To do this, select File > New Project.

In the project location browser, navigate to the location where you wish the project to be saved, name the project and select OK. This creates the project file [.lfm] in the specified location.

The project node now appears under the Registration tab. Next, right-click on the project node and select Import to this project. Browse to and select the source scans to be added to the project then select OK.

Project node highlighted under the registration tab

A message box appears asking you to confirm the location for any converted scans. By default this is the same location as the .lfm project file. You also have the ability to change the conversion options at this stage by enabling the Update Clipping check box. After the destination directory has been set, select OK to add the scans to the project.

For details on scan registration, please see AVEVA Point Cloud ManagerGateway Mode – Data Preparation and Registration.

Manipulate

Manipulate all the scans in the select group. A co-ordinate frame will appear at the center of the data. Click and drag any of the arrows to translate the data in the relevant direction. Click and drag any of the arcs to rotate the data in the relevant direction. Right-click to complete the function and accept the new position. Press Esc to exit the function without accepting the new position.

Add scans to registration status tab

Add all the scans in the selected group to the registration status tab for QA checking.

Collapse All

Collapse all nodes under the currently selected group.

Open all bubbles in group

Open all the currently loaded BubbleViews in the selected group.

Load all points in group

Load all the currently loaded points in the selected group.

Force to registered

Force the status of all scans in the selected group to Registered. This is useful for the primary scan when scans have been registered with targets but with no survey. Note: this does NOT change the position of the scan.

Register All

Register all the scans within the selected group within one operation.

Cloud All

Use inter cloud registration to register all the scans in the selected group. Scans must be loaded and in roughly the correct position for this feature to work.

Apply

External Transforms

Apply the position and rotation values of the scan source file (.tgt) to the scan node.

Scan Headers > Update ZFC Headers

Apply the position and rotation of the scan node back to the scan source file (.zfc).

Scan Headers > Update ZFS Headers

Apply the position and rotation of the scan node back to the ZFS scan source file.

Generate Dataset

Bring up the Generation Settings window for Point Cloud Manager dataset generation.

Reset attribute changes on scans

Restore the conversion settings for all scans within the selected group to the default settings.

Unify group properties

Apply the same conversion settings for all scans in the selected group. If scans have different conversion settings, you will be presented with the option to select which settings to use. This process may take some time depending on the number of scans in the group that need to be reprocessed.
