Welcome to AVEVA PI Server 2018 SP3 Installation and Configuration! This publication is intended for PI System administrators and anyone who installs and configures the AVEVA™ PI System™.

AVEVA PI Server is an enterprise-class platform used to aggregate, contextualize, and distribute real-time operations data across the AVEVA PI System. Its architecture and feature set enable seamless interoperability with a wide range of AVEVA software products, and supports on-premises deployments.

The AVEVA PI Server install kit offers the following software components:

  • Data Archive: Stores and archives time-series data and serves it in real time.

  • PI AF Server: Stores, contextualizes, refines, and analyzes operational plant data. The PI AF server consists of the PI AF application service and the PI AF SQL or cloud-hosted SQL database.

  • PI System Explorer: An application used to create models of your plant assets and operations.

  • PI Analysis Service: An optional software component that allows you to run analyses in PI System Explorer.

  • PI Notifications Service: An optional software component in PI System Explorer that allows you to create e-mail alerts or trigger external web services when important events occur.

Note: For additional details, see AVEVA PI Server 2018 SP3 - Patch 8 release notes.

AVEVA PI Server 2018 SP3 provides the following benefits:

  • Management and storage of on-premises PI Asset Framework (AF) data on SQL Server.

  • Improved data accessibility: Easier and more secure access to operational data from various locations.

  • Sophisticated calculation tools that transform raw data, combine data values from multiple systems into robust analyses, and automate calculation of vital day-to-day metrics.

  • Insights into plant operations and assets through automatic notifications, continuous system availability, system monitoring and management, and data security.
