Control characters are defined by each computer's code page. Different computers can have different control characters. It is possible for a client application to create object names or descriptions that contain control characters on the Data Archive computer. PI MDB allows this but PI MDB cannot be migrated to AF in this state.
The PI MDB to AF Preparation wizard uses the code page of the computer on which it is running to determine what characters are control characters. If any PI Module name, description, comment, PI property name or PI alias name contains characters that are configured as control characters, the control characters error appears.
If you are not running the wizard directly on the Data Archive computer, try that first. If you don't see the control characters error while running directly on the Data Archive computer, then you do not have a problem. Simply complete the wizard on the Data Archive computer.
If you get the error while running the wizard directly on the Data Archive computer, you have two options:
-
Edit the object in PI MDB to remove the control characters and then re-analyze.
-
Change the code page setting on the Data Archive computer to match the code page on the client computer (the computer on which the property or alias was created).
