  • 1 minute read

Launch an installation or upgrade of PI Server through a command-line prompt with command-line arguments to customize your installation or upgrade to your specific requirements. The use of the command line arguments is an alternative way to install or upgrade Data Archive, PI AF server, PI Notifications Service, and/or PI Analysis Service without the use of the install wizard user interface.

The command syntax for an installation or upgrade is:

PI Server_2018 SP3_.exe [/Help|PINFEATURE=name1,name2,…
|/log fullpathname|
/Repair|/Uninstall]
[/Quiet|/Passive]
[ADDLOCAL=ALL|TYPICAL|name1,name2,…]
[REMOVE=name1,name2,…]
[VARIABLENAME=value]

Note: Check the actual executable filename in your install kit to ensure you are using the correct filename in your command line syntax.

PI Server_2018 SP3_.exe

  • []: Designates optional arguments.

  • |: Designates mutually-exclusive arguments.

  • name1,name2,…: Corresponds to case-insensitive feature names for ADDLOCAL and REMOVE.

  • value: Corresponds to MSI variable values for VARIABLENAME.

  • The keyword corresponding to VARIABLENAME is case sensitive.

The returned code for the command are defined as:

  • 0: Success.

  • 3010: Success, but requires a reboot.

  • Any other returned value indicates a failed installation.

The following sections provide a list of command-line arguments that are supported for the PI Server_2018 SP3_.exe command.
