][A graphic that shows the four phases of a Data Archive installation. The final phase - Phase 4: Post-upgrade - is highlighted.

The final phase of your upgrade centers around some setup tasks to help ensure your updated Data Archive is ready for use. These tasks include verifying that the installation completed successfully, configuring backups, and performing some tasks around synchronization.

  1. Verify the upgrade completed successfully by performing the following steps:

    1. Verify that the Data Archive version on your upgraded deployment is correct.

For more information on how to check the version of your updated Data Archive, see Check the version.

    1. View Data Archive installation log files on your upgraded deployment to see if any new errors appear following the upgrade.

For more information on how to view installation logs, see View the installation log files.

    1. Ensure that your upgraded server is collecting new data by verifying that the corresponding PI services are running, looking at event queue activity, and confirming that tags are updating. You can also check Archive and Snapshot statistics and examine both archive and snapshot data.

For more information on how to verify that your upgrade was successful, see Verify the installation. For more information on using statistics to monitor system health, see the Data Archive topic Snapshot and Archive Statistics.

  2. (If installed) Check PI Performance Monitoring to verify that the interface is running and buffering properly.

    For more information, see Buffering.

  3. Verify that data is properly flowing through the buffer using the PI Buffering Manager.

This is to ensure that any issues with configuration that cause data flow to the server that is not passed through the buffer are identified and addressed. In this scenario, you may think the buffer is working properly but it is actually not configured correctly. See Test buffering.

  4. Configure Data Archive nightly or regular backups.

If you have set up a Data Archive collective, you should configure backup tasks on each member of the collective. Schedule each backup task at least 30 minutes apart. See the Data Archive topic Configure a PI Data Archive scheduled backup.

  5. Lower your user account privileges.

For more information on how to modify permissions for your account, see Learn about the importance of removing user account privileges.

  6. Check the time, timezone, and DST settings on your upgraded deployment.

For more information on how to check the time settings on your updated Data Archive, see Synchronize time settings on host computers.

  7. Migrate your PI Batch Database and PI Batch Subsystem data to PI Event Frames.

See the document PI Batch to event frame migration.

  8. Configure hardening measures by following the security best practices described in the Knowledge Base article: KB00833 - Seven best practices for securing your PI Server.

For more information about how to harden your deployment, see Configure hardening measures.
