Installing PI Asset Framework with the SQL Server Always On feature requires an environment that meets these minimum requirements:
-
A SQL Server Always On Availability Group requires a minimum of two SQL Server machines. The SQL Server database engine services should run under domain accounts for each of the machines to be included in the availability group. Each machine involved in the availability group must be in a failover cluster; that is, they must be Microsoft Windows Servers that are included in a group of machines that use the Windows Failover Clustering feature. For details on SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, see Prerequisites, Restrictions, and Recommendations for Always On availability groups
-
A SQL Server Always On Basic Availability Group requires a minimum of two SQL Server machines belonging to a Windows Failover Cluster. The SQL Server database engine services on each server in the Always On Basic Availability Group should run under domain accounts. For information on SQL Server Always On Basic Availability Groups, see Basic Always On availability groups for a single database.
-
A Windows Server machine that is not included in the failover cluster. This machine will be used to run the PI AF application service.
