AVEVA™ PI Server Installation and Configuration (PI Server 2018)

Test the SMTP server

Verify that you can send emails through the SMTP Server.

  1. Using PI System Explorer, select File > Server Properties > Plug-Ins.

  2. Right-click Email and select Settings.

  3. Click Test to send a test email.

Notifications does not authenticate the sender's email. If you get an error message about an authentication from the intended recipient of the email, the SMTP or exchange server on the recipient's side is checking for authentication.

Some SMTP or exchange servers require applications to authenticate before they grant permissions to send email. If you get an error regarding a permission issue for notifications, you must ask your IT department to allow notifications to send emails. By default, PI Notifications Service logs in as NT Service\PINotificationsService, which does not have sufficient permissions if your organization has a global policy that requires authentication.
