Our goal is to increase service reliability and to better withstand malicious attack with each version. We use the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) process to minimize security-related issues in the PI System and to detect and eliminate vulnerabilities as early as possible.

Data Archive security starts with, and relies on, enforcement by the Windows operating system. The best thing you can do to improve software security and reliability is to upgrade to the latest software versions. They contain the greatest number of fixes for security vulnerabilities and the greatest number of security defenses. Scheduling upgrades in production environments can be challenging; high availability is recommended because it provides freedom to roll out upgrades without loss of service. We publish security patch compatibility results within days of availability from Microsoft.

Note: For more information about Microsoft patch compatibility, see the Knowledge Base article: MS Security Patch Compatibility.

  1. Upgrade to the recommended version of the Windows Server operating system listed in System requirements for Data Archive 2024.

  2. Upgrade to the latest version of the PI System components.
