Learn about install options for PI Analysis Service

Each instance of PI Analysis Service runs analytics for a single PI AF server (PI AF application service). Each PI AF server can have exactly one instance of PI Analysis Service that runs the analytics for the server. You can install the service on the same computer as the corresponding PI AF server or on a different computer. For best calculation performance, install PI Analysis Service on a different computer, which offers dedicated computing resources for PI Analysis Service. You can only install one instance of PI Analysis Service on a computer.

To provide high availability for PI Analysis Service, install PI Analysis Service in a failover cluster created with Windows Clustering. You can include PI Notifications Service in the same cluster. A failover cluster maintains a consistent image on more than one node and allows nodes to transfer resource ownership on demand.
