The PI MDB to AF Preparation wizard helps you prepare a Data Archive server for migration. The wizard reports incompatibilities that you must fix before you can migrate PI MDB content to PI AF; it also initializes the PI AF server for AF Link.

If you are upgrading a pre-2010 Data Archive server that uses PI MDB, then you must download and successfully complete the PI MDB to AF Preparation wizard before you upgrade to PI Server 2010, or later. The PI MDB to AF Preparation wizard is included in PI System Management Tools (PI SMT) for PI Server 2010, and later.

If you are sure that you have no applications that use the PI MDB, you can defer running the PI MDB to PI AF Preparation wizard.
