PI AF upgrade in a failover cluster

A failover cluster that includes PI Asset Framework requires an environment that includes at least four machines that are divided two separate clusters. This section demonstrates how to upgrade the PI AF SQL Server database feature for the machines in a SQL Server cluster and upgrade the PI AF Application Service for the machines in a separate failover cluster.

Note: The first time a client connects to an upgraded PI AF server (the machine hosting the PI AF Application Service and other services), some final upgrade operations will occur that may cause a brief period of slow performance. We recommend that you use PI System Explorer to connect to your upgraded PI AF server immediately after the upgrade to force these operations to occur.
