AVEVA™ PI Server Installation and Configuration (PI Server 2018)

License a new Data Archive collective

A collective is a configuration of multiple Data Archive servers that acts as a single logical Data Archive in your AVEVA™ PI System™ deployment to provide High Availability (HA), disaster recovery, load distribution, and increased scalability. Each Data Archive server in a collective is called a member of the collective.

Licensing a Data Archive collective differs from licensing a single Data Archive deployment. With a single Data Archive server, you generate a license file for that specific Data Archive in your deployment. With a PI collective, you generate a license file for the primary Data Archive member of the collective, and all secondary members will utilize the license file on the primary member. Your licensing agreement allows for a specified number of secondary Data Archive members to connect to the primary member in the collective.

Note: You do not need to create a license file for each Data Archive server within a collective.

The pilicense.zip file that you generated for your primary Data Archive server includes a temporary license file (temporarylicense.dat). In order to install the secondary members of your Data Archive collective, you must use this temporary license file to proceed with the installation of each secondary Data Archive before adding them to the Data Archive collective. Once added into the collective, this temporary license will be replaced by the primary members's license file.
