This topic provides the recommended requirements for the machine that hosts PI Notifications Service 2018 SP3 Patch 5.

Supported operating systems and software

For production systems, PI Notifications Service 2018 SP3 Patch 5 can be deployed on the following Microsoft Windows Server operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2025, including Windows Server Core installations, or

  • Windows Server 2022: All editions in both full and core installations

  • Windows Server 2019: All editions in both full and core installations

  • Windows Server 2016: All editions in both full and core installations

  • Windows Server 2012 & Windows Server 2012 R2*

PI System requirements

PI Notifications Service 2018 SP3 Patch 5 requires the following minimum version of these PI System components:

  • Data Archive version 3.4.395 or later

  • PI AF Server version 2.8.5 and later

These PI System components are also required:

  • PI System Explorer: Use the PI AF Client setup kit or the AF Server component of the PI Server installer to install PI System Explorer.

  • Management plug-in for PI System Explorer

Third party components

  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime: Required for the screenshot feature in PI Notifications. See Install Microsoft Edge WebView2 for screenshots.

*Microsoft no longer supports these versions of Windows Server. Neither version is recommended.

Data privacy note: The WebView2 SDK component of Microsoft Edge WebView2 is redistributed with PI Notifications Service 2018 SP3 Patch 6. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, a WebView2 feature, is not disabled in PI Notifications Service. The Microsoft Defender SmartScreen feature collects and transmits user information to Microsoft as detailed in the Microsoft Privacy Statement and the Microsoft Edge Privacy Whitepaper.
