In PI Manual Logger (PI-ML) version 2.2.x or prior, certain security checks were being performed within PI-ML itself outside the Data Archive server. Because of these extra checks, such older versions of PI-ML should connect to the Data Archive server solely via a PI trust to a PI user. For details, see Create a trust.
Furthermore, these extra security checks require that all tags accessed by PI-ML 2.2.x remain backwards-compatible. For more information, see Learn how to maintain backwards-compatible access permissions.
If access is not configured correctly, you receive the following error when writing data to the tags included in the tour:
You do not have permission to write the manual data to PI at this moment.
Cannot write to tag ' <tagName>'
Your PI configuration does not allow you to write manual data to PI.
In PI-ML 2.3, the security checks within PI-ML itself have been removed, and PI-ML now relies solely on the Data Archive server for its security. Thus, PI-ML 2.3 can fully leverage all the new security features of the PI Server 3.4.380.
