AVEVA™ PI Server Installation and Configuration (PI Server 2018)

Configure data directory location

  • Last UpdatedFeb 26, 2025
  • 1 minute read

Information used by PI Notifications Service is stored at the default location: %ProgramData%\OSIsoft\PINotifications. The DataDirectory appconfig setting specifies the location for this information.

Note: The service user requires permission to this folder. If you change the folder location or the service user, ensure that user has permissions to access the folder.

If the data directory is set as a network path (\\ServerName\FolderName) in the configuration database, the user needs to explicitly allow full permission to the domain account running the service to the data directory folder and any subfolders.

All directories (except Migration) created by PI Notifications Service within the data directory is protected access. This means that only the System, Local Administrators, PI Notifications Service and the current user have access to these folders. Existing permissions for higher directories are NOT automatically inherited by these directories. The Migration directory is accessible to the SYSTEM, Local Administrators, Users and the Notifications Service.

  1. In PI System Explorer, click Database to select and connect to the configuration database on the PI AF server specified when installing PI Notifications Service.

  2. In the Elements pane, expand OSIsoft > PIANO > Notifications and select Service.

  3. In the Service pane, click the Attributes tab.

  4. Edit the value of the DataDirectory attribute to set the value entry to the folder that you created to store runtime data for PI Notifications Service.

Note: Check to ensure you have specified the correct file path to the Data directory.
