The following table contains the formulas used to calculate LCL and UCL for a chart point.

The example in this table illustrates the control limits calculated for a sample size of 15.

Formula

Example

Mean =

CL = * n

LCL = – (3 * )

UCL = + (3 * )

where n is the actual sample size from the sample.

If LCL < 0, then LCL = 0; otherwise LCL

Mean = = 0.55224

CL = 0.55224 * 15 = 8.28358

LCL = 8.28358 – (3 * ) = –0.35078

LCL = 0

UCL = 8.28358 + (3 * ) = 16.91795
