Configure BI Gateway and MES Database Setup components

Configure BI Gateway and MES Database Setup components

If not previously performed, the BI Gateway and MES Database Setup components must be configured in the post-install Configurator.

If you have an existing MES 2014 R3 or Line Performance Suite 1.x Intelligence Reporting database, it is recommended to create a new BI Gateway database with this release as the new model does not support migration/upgrade from the older model. If all the source data exists in the MES database, an alternative is to delete the existing Intelligence database and regenerate the data.

  1. On the node on which BI Gateway is installed, open Configurator and configure the BI Gateway components.

BI Gateway must be configured before configuring the MES BI Gateway Reports component. However, the MES database can be set up prior to or after configuring the BI Gateway components.

  2. To configure the BI Gateway Server properties, do the following:

    1. In the Data Store Server Name field, type the name or IP address of the SQL Server instance that will host the data store.

SQL Server named instances are supported (ServerName\InstanceName).

    2. In the Data Store Database Name field, type the name of the database for the Intelligence data store.

    3. (Optional) In the Data File Path field, type the path for storing the database primary file (.mdf).

    4. (Optional) In the Log File Path field, type the path for storing the database log file (.ldf).

    5. The Authentication Mode used to connect to the data store for creating a database is Windows Integrated Security.

    6. In the User Name field, type the Intelligence Server service account user name.

This is the user account under which the Intelligence Server service runs.

    7. In the Password field, type the password of the service account.

    8. In the Domain field, type the domain name of the service account user name.

Note: The credentials that are used in the Intelligence Service configuration must exist. The login {Domain\UserName} must be added as a member of db_owner to the SQL Server logins for both the Intelligence data store and staging databases. The selected user does not need additional SQL Server rights other than those assigned to the Intelligence databases (data store and staging).

  3. To configure the BI Gateway Data Adapter service properties, do the following:

BI Gateway Data Adaoter service configuration properties.

    1. In the Service Port field, type the port number details.

By default, the value is 8732. Communications between the Intelligence service and the Intelligence Data Adapter service will use the port number specified over a TCP connection.

    2. In the User Name field, type the data adapter service account user name.

This is the user account under which the Intelligence Data Adapter service runs; it must have the appropriate rights to start a service. The user account must also have read permission to access the remote data source.

    3. In the Password field, type the data adapter service account user password.

    4. In the Domain field, type the domain of the service account user name.

  4. To configure the BI Gateway Model Builder properties, do the following:

BI Gateway Model Builder component properties.

    1. In the Model API Port No field, type the port number. By default, the value is 61076.

    2. In the Model Builder Port No field, type the port number. By default, the value is 61075.

    3. By default, the Authorize current logged on user <domain\user name> to have Read/Write access to model builder check box is selected. This adds the currently logged-on user to the 'aaIntelligenceConfigAdmin' Windows group.

For more information about the BI Gateway components, see the BI Gateway Software Installation Guide.

Note: If you have upgraded from Intelligence to BI Gateway, the BI Gateway component status indicators might incorrectly show that they have already been configured. You must still configure each component.

  5. On the node on which the MES Database Server component was installed, use the Configurator to configure the MES Database Setup component and create the MES database or migrate an existing one to the current version.

For detailed procedures, see Configure the MES database.

  6. After completing the configuration tasks, select Close to close the Configurator.

You are prompted to reboot the computer for the configuration changes to take effect.

  7. Restart the computer to avoid BI Gateway permission issues.

  8. After the restart is complete, you can import and deploy the MES BI Gateway model.
