automated_coll Field in Characteristic and Qm_Spec_Char_Link Tables

The automated_coll field is a Boolean datatype in the Characteristic table because in that table it is non-nullable. The same field in the Qm_Spec_Char_Link table is an integer because in that table it is nullable.
