Use the configurator to define the location of the license server that will host MES product licenses and verify whether the license server is running in secure mode.

Note that the following procedure applies to configuring Enterprise License server for MES. For detailed information on configuring AVEVA Enterprise Licensing, refer to the AVEVA Enterprise Licensing online help (https://docs.aveva.com).

Configure the Enterprise license server component

  1. If the post-install Configurator is not already open, from the Start screen of the node on which MES was installed, open the Configurator.

  2. In the post-install Configurator, select the License Server component.

Configurator screen displaying the License Server fields to be configured including primary server name, server port, and agent port.

  3. Verify whether the license server is currently configured for Secure Mode by viewing the status of the AVEVA Enterprise Licensing Secure component.

Running AVEVA Enterprise License Server in Secure Mode enables encrypted communication between the license server and AVEVA Enterprise Software products. Secure Mode configuration depends on the System Management Server (SMS) setup:

    • SMS is configured: If SMS is installed and configured on your machine, Secure Mode will be shown as configured by default.

    • SMS is not configured: If SMS is missing, Secure Mode will appear as not configured. To enable it, first configure SMS, then update the Secure and Select License Server components in the Configurator. For more information, see Implement secure communication with System Management Server.

    • SMS configuration changed: If SMS settings are modified, you must reconfigure the Secure and Select License Server components.

    • Distributed setup with multiple SMS nodes: If License Manager and License Server are on one node with SMS, and Licensing API is on another node with a different SMS, both must point to the same SMS to enable Secure Mode.

  4. To specify the license server settings, select the Select License Server component and enter the following settings:

    • Primary Server Name: The IP address/machine name of the server that hosts the relevant licenses.

If the License Server is not installed on the local node, enter the License Server name. Alternatively, select a server name from the drop down list of previously-configured License Servers.

    • Server Port: The server port number. The default port number is 55559.

    • Agent Port: The license server agent port number. The default port number is 59201.

    • Legacy Server Port: The legacy license server port number. The legacy server port configuration is required if license server is prior to version 4.2. The default port number is 55555.

  5. Select Test Connection to verify connectivity to the server.

  6. If the test was successful, select the Configure button.

If the license server was properly configured, a success message appears in the Configuration Messages box. Also, the License Server status indicator changes to a green check mark.

Enable license server redundancy

License server redundancy enables you to configure a pair of license servers to work in a synchronized manner to provide high availability of activated licenses. For more information on enabling license server redundancy, refer to the AVEVA Enterprise Licensing online help Enable License Server Redundancy topic (https://docs.aveva.com).
