Change case settings

Open the General page under the Settings section of the left pane to change the time period covered by the scheduling case and how the case details are displayed.

Set the scheduling period duration

The Duration section of the General tab defines the beginning and end date and time horizon for the scheduling case. Setting the start time determines how the scheduling period is subdivided in the Tabular pane. For example, if you set 09:00:00 as start time and use a granularity of one day, each row of the Tabular pane will cover the interval from 9 AM on one day to 9 AM on the following day.

Set the time zones

Each schedule has a default time zone. This determines the default time zone for which all activities are entered and shown in the Tabular and Gantt panes. Select the time zone for the case from the Time Zone control in the Duration section of the General tab. All dates and times shown in the user interface will be displayed for this time zone.

Within certain views, and in the Excel Add-In, you can override the default time zone by choosing an alternate time zone in the Format group of the Layout ribbon tab. Any edits to activities are made in the newly selected time zone. Underlying edits are made in the default model time zone, but this is not visible unless you change to the default time zone.

Example: An activity (in an UTC based model) may be scheduled to begin in London at 09:00 UTC and last for 1.5 hours (ending at 10:30 UTC). A user in Istanbul (EET, UTC + 2) may choose to display the activity in their local time zone and so the activity would begin at 11:00 and last until 12:30. This user could change the activity in their time zone to run from 11:30 until 13:00 EET. In the underlying model the activity would be changed to run from 09:30 - 11:00 UTC.

Set the Tabular pane time format and resolution

The Tabular pane displays the schedule as a number of rows, each of which represents an aggregate period of time in the schedule. Activities occurring within the period covered by the time are summed or averaged together to show the bulk scheduling operations occurring at that time.

In the Tabular section, you can configure the following:

  • The date and time format used in the Tabular pane, from the Date Format drop-down menu.

  • The length of time each row represents in the Tabular pane. Each setting in this section shows how periods are divided up in the Tabular pane. Different time intervals can be configured to view the schedule with different levels of granularity.

Consider the following example:

  1. The first day is displayed in hour segments: there are 24 rows for the 24 hours in the day.

  2. After the first day, the next six days are displayed as whole days: there are another six rows for the six days.

  3. The next three weeks are displayed as whole weeks: there are another three rows for the three weeks.

  4. This leaves a remainder of two days, which are displayed in the last row.

Set activity modification rules

The first four Activity Modification options define how activities change when one of their elements is adjusted. For example, if an activity length is changed, there must be a change in amount or rate associated with that activity.

Example: If you set Changing start date recalculates to Flow rate, it means that, whenever you change the start date of an activity, the flow rate is recalculated accordingly, while the amount and the end date stay the same.

The last option in this section, Changing UoM, defines how changing the unit of measure of an amount or flow influences its numerical value:

  • Retain numerical amount: The numerical value is not changed.

  • Retain effective amount: The numerical value is converted to the new unit of measure.

This options affects amounts and flows for activities, imports and exports.

Set default units of measure

The UoMs tab allows default units of measure to be associated with each asset. The default UoM is used when you create activities associated with that asset, and also as the default UoM for columns in the Tabular pane.

There are several entries with <All> in the Asset column. These define the default unit of measure for all the assets of the type specified in the Type column.

The row with Type set as All can be used to set default units of measure for all the assets in the model, irrespective of their type.

Settings at a more specific level override settings at a more general level. For example, a unit of measure set for a particular blender overrides the one set for the Blender type, which in turn overrides the one set for the All type.

Tip: Use the Group By This Column context menu option on the header to organize the layout of the grid.

Feed blend optimization

The Feed Blend Optimization tab contains the same controls as the Blend Optimization Settings window in the Multi Feed Blend Environment.

Settings between the tab and the window are synchronized according to these rules:

  • If you modify a setting in the Feed Blend Optimization tab, this is reflected in the Blend Optimization Settings window after you click the Refresh button in the Modelling group of the Home ribbon tab in the Multi Feed Blend Environment.

  • If you modify a setting in the Blend Optimization Settings window, this is reflected in the Feed Blend Optimization tab after you click the Apply button in the Modelling group of the Home ribbon tab in the Multi Feed Blend Environment.

Product blend optimization

The Product Blend Optimization tab contains the same controls as the Blend Optimization Settings window in the Multi Product Blend Environment.

Settings between the tab and the window are synchronized according to these rules:

  • If you modify a setting in the Product Blend Optimization tab, this is reflected in the Blend Optimization Settings window after you click the Refresh button in the Modelling group of the Home ribbon tab in the Multi Product Blend Environment.

  • If you modify a setting in the Blend Optimization Settings window, this is reflected in the Product Blend Optimization tab after you click the Apply button in the Modelling group of the Home ribbon tab in the Multi Product Blend Environment.
