The Diagnostics window, with the Filter drop-down list showing the available filters

The Diagnostics window in the scheduling environment is similar to the one found in the planning environment. In addition, there is a filtering bar at the top that gives you more flexibility when selecting the messages to show:

  • From: Show only the messages after a particular date and time in the scheduling period. Click the text field to reveal three available options:

    • Schedule Start: Show all the messages from the start of the scheduling period. This is the default option.

    • Offset from Start: Show only the messages after a given number of days and hours from the start of the scheduling period.

    • Specific date: Show only the messages after a particular date and time. Type the date and time directly, or click the arrow next to the text field to reveal a calendar and clock widget.

  • Until: Show only the messages before a particular date and time in the scheduling period. Click the text field to reveal three available options:

    • Schedule End: Show all the messages until the end of the scheduling period. This is the default option.

    • For Duration: Show only the messages within a given length of time starting from the From date and time.

    • Specific date: Show only the messages until a particular date and time. Type the date and time directly, or click the arrow next to the text field to reveal a calendar and clock widget.

  • Filter: Show only the messages pertaining to a particular class of assets, chosen from the drop-down menu.

Even more fine-grained control on which diagnostic messages to show is available in the Diagnostics Settings pane.

Use the filtering option in the Diagnostics list to show only relevant messages. Click the Show Filter icon () and type some text to filter for messages with the entered string.

Diagnostics settings

The Diagnostic Settings window, with message settings defined for three assets

In the Diagnostics Settings window you can define rules governing the types of messages that are shown or hidden in the Diagnostics window.

To open this window, while in the Display page click the Diagnostics Settings button in the Panes group of the Home ribbon tab.

Each rule corresponds to an Action applied to certain types of Messages about specified Assets. You can apply a rule to all types of assets or messages by leaving the Assets or Messages cell empty, respectively.

There are two types of action:

  • Include: Show only the messages matching the specified asset and/or type. Hide all other messages, except those covered by other Include rules.

  • Exclude: Hide the messages matching the specified asset and/or type.

You can select or clear the check box in the Active column to apply a rule or suspend its application, respectively.

Add rules

There are two ways you can add rules: from the Diagnostics Settings window itself, and from the Diagnostics window.

Add rules from the Diagnostics window

Follow these steps to add a configuration rule from the Diagnostics window:

  1. Right-click on a diagnostic message corresponding to the asset and/or type of message about which you want to create a rule. A context menu appears.

  2. Hover your mouse pointer on Configure Diagnostics. A submenu appears.

  3. Hover your mouse pointer on either Exclude or Include, according to whether you want to hide this type of messages, or to show only this type of messages. A further submenu appears.

  4. Click on one of these options:

    • All messages of this type: Exclude or include all messages of this type.

    • All message for asset name: Exclude or include all messages for this asset.

    • This message type for asset name: Exclude or include only the messages of this type for this asset.

When you click on one of the options, the rule is created and applied. You can then further configure the new rule as described in Edit Rules.

Add rules from the Diagnostics Settings window

To add a rule, click the Add button (Plus button). A new, empty row is added to the grid. You can then configure the new rule as described in Edit Rules.

Delete rules

To delete one or more rules, select the corresponding rows in the Diagnostics Settings window and click the Delete button (Delete button). The rules are immediately deleted, without further confirmation being asked.

Edit rules

You can easily change the assets and message types covered by a rule.

Tip: When you edit a rule, the Diagnostics window is automatically updated. This makes the Diagnostics Settings window a powerful tool to quickly filter diagnostic messages. You can create your library of rules and then apply or exclude them dynamically.

Configure assets. Hover your mouse pointer on the cell you want to edit in the Assets column. The Edit icon (Rename column icon) appears. Click the icon to open the Asset Selector dialog.
