When you edit the information of multi-plant models you can manage the plants included in the model via the Plants tab.

Each plant is defined in a particular model and case.

Use the buttons on the right-hand side of the dialog to perform operations on the list of plants:

  • Plus button: Add a new plant from the supply chain models available to you.

  • Delete button: Delete the selected plant. You can only remove plants from cases not in use.

  • Warning sign button: Investigate model conflicts.

  • Replace button: Replace the selected plant with another one.

You add a plant by adding the case in which it is defined. It is possible to add multiple cases, in which case the source workspace case hierarchy is preserved. For example, if you add a parent and three children as cases, a copy of the parent and the three children is made and the relationship between the parent and children is maintained.

Within the new model it is possible to edit plants. When editing the embedded plants, the internal case hierarchy is still used. Therefore, if you wish to change a setting in all three embedded child cases, do it in the parent case and the change will cascade in the embedded hierarchy.

Warning: It is possible to remove plants that are referenced in calculations and watch sets. In this situation, these links will be broken. To update a plant and preserve connections with watch sets and calculations, use the replace button rather than deleting and re-adding the plant.

Reference data errors

When adding or replacing plants you may see warnings or errors regarding compatibility. Within a supply chain model, all reference data must be of the same version. This ensures consistency between the different plants. Where reference data is not consistent an error will be generated.

For example, imagine that a company uses a single gasoline specification. Plants A and B both use this specification. The global specification is updated, but only plant A updates its model. When these plants are combined, an error will be generated as the two plants now use different version of the same reference data.

To correct reference data errors follow these steps:

  1. Close the dialog.

  2. Select each plant which will become part of the multi-plant model and run the Update Wizard.

  3. Make sure each plant case successfully optimizes.

  4. Re-add or replace the cases that were generating errors.
