View and retrieve historical versions

When you edit a model and then commit it back to the central server, a new version of the model is created. Any future Get operation will retrieve by default the latest version of a model.
Older versions remain available and can be retrieved if needed. Retrieving older versions can be useful, for example, to troubleshoot a problem, since you can test each version and find out which update caused the problem in the first place.
To see the version history of one or more models, click History in the Sharing group of the Home ribbon tab. This reveals a menu, from which you can choose All, to review the history of all models you have access to, or Selected Model, to review the history of the selected model only.
The Server History dialog (called Model History if you have selected a single model) opens.

The icons in the dialog toolbar allow you, among other things, to export the history to Microsoft Excel, to customize the columns in the Changesets History table and to save the current table configuration as a custom view.
Follow these steps to retrieve a historical version of a model:
-
Select the model in the Supply Chain Models tab of the Model Explorer.
-
Click History in the Sharing group of the Home ribbon tab, and choose Selected Model from the menu. The Model History dialog opens.
-
From the list of versions, choose the ones to retrieve by selecting the corresponding check boxes in the Get column.
-
Close the dialog.
-
Click Get in the Sharing group of the Home ribbon tab to retrieve the historical models you have selected.

Note: The historical version will not replace the current model. It will be placed in the share it was originally committed to, even if the share was changed in later versions.
Historical versions of models are marked with a
icon. They cannot be edited, but can be copied.
