Update reference data

The Update Reference Data dialog with two entries of type Specification

In a supply chain model you can override global reference data. For example, you could override the benzene specification of gasoline in a case, changing the value to a lower number. You may then want everyone within your company to use the new reference data value. You can either make the same edit to the global specification, or update the global specification with your local edits.

The Update Reference Data dialog lets you do the latter, by allowing local edits to global reference data in a case to be published back to the global reference data.

Warning: Use this feature carefully, to avoid publishing values that are supposed to remain confined to a single case.

Follow these steps to update global reference data with your local edits:

  1. Edit the relevant data in one of your cases. For example, edit a blend specification in the Specifications tab of the Blending page.

  2. Save your changes and close the case.

  3. Select the case in the case list and click Update Reference Data in the Cases group of the Home ribbon tab. Select each global object to update to match the local edits.

  4. Click OK to confirm your choice.

  5. Commit the changes.

  6. Update the original model to use the newly updated global object. Updating the global reference data creates a new version of the global object, but the original model still contains the old edited version of the object. Running the update wizard replaces the old edited object with the read-only global object (which are the same because the global object was just aligned with the edited local version).

  7. Update any other models to use the newly updated global object.
