The model list in the Supply Chain Models tab of the left-hand pane of the Model Explorer shows the supply chain models available to you and the shares in which they are saved. Type in the search box at the top to filter the model list. Filtering is done in real time on the contents of all the columns in the tab.
Models in AVEVA Unified Supply Chain can be either local or shared. Local models exist only on the computer where AVEVA Unified Supply Chain is running and are owned by the current user, who has permission to edit all the components of the model. Shared models exist on another database server and are typically shared by several users. Each of these users has different permissions to edit the model. For example, one user may have permission to edit the flowsheet only, while a different user may have permission to edit sales and purchases only.

The following icons indicate the status of models:
-
: the model is stored in a share on the server and has not been downloaded yet.
-
: the model has been downloaded from the server to the local database.
Variations of these icons are used to convey further information:
-
: the model is checked out for editing by another user. A tooltip shows the user and location where the model
is checked out.
-
: the model is checked out by you.
-
: local changes have been made to the model, but the changes have not been committed to the central server yet. This is the initial state of newly created models.
-
: this is a historic version of the model. A copy or temporary version must be created to work with it.
To configure the columns shown by the Supply Chain Models tab, follow these steps:
-
Right-click on any column header.
-
Click Show Column Chooser in the context menu. The Column Chooser window opens.
-
To add or remove a column, select or clear the corresponding check box in the Column Chooser window. Note that the Name column and the column with the model icons cannot be removed.
Tip: The column with
as header shows whether a model has been downloaded to your local database.
Display models
There are many ways to customize the list of models shown in the Supply Chain Models tab.

To choose which models to show, select one of these options from the drop-down list at the top of the tab:
-
Show all Shares and Models: display all the shares you have access to and all the models within each share, whether they have been downloaded or not. This is the default.
-
Show only Shares containing downloaded Models: display only the shares for which you have downloaded at least one model. Within these shares, display also the models you have not downloaded.
-
Show only downloaded Models: display only the shares for which you have downloaded at least one model. Within these shares, display only the models you have downloaded.
To expand or collapse all the share sections in the tab, click the
or
button, respectively.
To sort models by the contents of a column, do either of the following:
-
Click a column header to sort by the contents of that column. Click again to reverse the sort order.
-
Right-click on a column header and choose Sort Ascending or Sort Descending from the context menu.
To clear sorting, right-click a column header and choose Clear Sorting from the context menu.
Note that models are sorted independently within each share.
Open models
Double-click a model to open the corresponding master case.
When you open a case in a model, or a case stack, AVEVA Unified Supply Chain checks whether the required reference data, such as properties and units of measure, is available. If any of the required data objects cannot be found, the following Unable to Open Model error message is displayed:

If you encounter this error message, the most likely cause is that your account does not have the correct permissions for the shares containing the reference data. Contact your local AVEVA Unified Supply Chain administrator or AVEVA support (spiral.support@aveva.com).
Create models
To create a new model, click the Add Model button in the Supply Chain Models group of the Home ribbon tab.
The default is to create a single-plant, single-period model. This is a model optimizing the operations of one plant over a single contiguous period of time. Click the lower half of the button to reveal a menu with more options, described in the following sections:
-
Add new Single-Plant Model: creates a single-plant, single-period model. This is the same as clicking the upper half of the Add Model button.
-
Add new Single-Plant Model from Case: creates a single-plant, single-period model using an existing case as basis.
-
Add new Multi-Period Model: creates a single-plant, multi-period model.
-
Add new Network Model: creates a multi-plant, multi-period model.
Create a new model from an existing case

You can create new supply chain models using an existing case as a basis. Creating a new model this way makes the master case of this model the same as the selected basis case.
-
Click the lower half of the Add Model button in the Supply Chain Models group of the Home ribbon tab. Choose Add New Single-Plant Model from Case from the menu. The New Model from Case dialog opens.
-
In the General tab, enter a name, location and description for the model. To find a location, click the globe icon and navigate to the specific location, if necessary opening the list of places within continents and countries to find the location. Alternatively, type the name of the location in the filter menu to quickly find it.
-
Select the Preserve sub cases check box if you want the new model to include any sub-cases of the selected case.
-
Switch to the UoM tab and choose the default temperature and pressure unit for the model.
-
Still in the UoM tab, select a weight or volume basis for the model from the Wgt/Vol Basis drop-down list. This is only used to select default options for unit display and does not affect the underlying mathematics of the optimization problem.
-
Switch to the Copy Options tab and select the check box for each option you want to enable:
-
Maintain Results: preserves a copy of the current case results in the new model.
-
Update Creator: updates the Created By field in the case list of the new model with your user name, and the Created time and date to the current time and date.
-
-
Click OK to confirm your choices and create the model.
Delete models
To delete one or more models, select them in the Supply Chain Models pane and do either of the following:
-
Click Delete Model(s) in the Supply Chain Models group of the Home ribbon tab.
-
Right-click the model name and choose Delete Model(s) from the context menu.
You can only delete models for which you have the appropriate permissions. If you selected multiple models, those you do not have permission to delete are ignored.
You can delete a model whether you have downloaded it locally or not.
Tip: If you want to delete a case of the model, rather than the whole model, see Delete Cases in Models.
