Update cases

With the Update Case dialog window you can update data in a target case with data from a source case, that is, copy or merge elements of one supply chain model case into other supply chain model cases. These changes may be between cases of the same model, but may also be between different models.
Warning: Use Update Case with caution. Merging elements from another case may corrupt your target case. Always review the list of changes in the Update Case dialog box and make sure they are what you expect.

Note: You can only merge some changes from one case to another. Changes which cannot be
merged include changes to topology, such as new process units, changes to layouts
and edits to the number of outputs to process units.
Changes which cannot be merged must be manually recreated in the target case, or the
entire target model should be replaced by the model with the relevant changes. In
other words, the old model should be deleted or archived, and the new model with the
relevant changes should become the master model. Note however that, by doing so, the
old model's historical versions would be deleted too.
-
Open the Update Case dialog window
Select the model containing the case to be updated in the Supply Chain Models tab, then click Update Case in the Case group of the Home ribbon tab. The Update Case dialog window opens.
-
Select the source case
Choose the source case (that is, the one containing the updated data) from the drop-down menus on the left-hand side. First choose the Source Share, then the Source Model and finally the Source Case.
If you select a multi-plant model, the Source Plant drop-down menu becomes active, allowing you to choose a specific plant.
-
Select the target case
Select the target case from the Target Case drop-down menu.
If the target model is a multi-plant model, choose a specific plant from the Target Plant menu.
Note that the Target Share and Target Model drop-down menus are not active. To select a different model, click the Close button and select the model from the list in the Supply Chain Models tab before opening the Update Case window again.
-
Select the data items to update
The lower part of the Update Case window shows a table with all the data items that have been compared between the source and target case. The values in the Status column can be one of the following:
-
Identical: The two values match. No update necessary.
-
Exists in target only: No such data item is in the source case, therefore the item will be removed from the target during import.
-
Exists in source only: No such data item is in the target case, therefore the item will be inserted into the target during import.
-
Different: The two values are different. The value in the target case will be updated with the value in the source case.
You can choose which data items are updated by selecting or clearing the check boxes on each row. Only the check boxes on rows with Status set as Different are active.
To make the job of selecting data items easier, you have various ways to filter the list:
-
Select the Start and/or End check boxes, then type a date in the text field next to them or click the arrow to the right of the text field to open a date picker. This lets you filter the data items by date. Click the Apply filters button to apply changes to this filter.
-
Select or clear the Show checked and Show unchecked check boxes to show or hide data items according to the status of their check boxes. Click the Apply filters button to apply changes to this filter.
-
Select or clear the Show identical check box to show or hide data items with Status set to Identical. Click the Apply filters button to apply changes to this filter.
-
Another filter, active only on top-level data items in the hierarchy, is shown at the bottom of the window, with a syntax like [Status] = 'Different' Or [Status] = 'Source Only'. To enable or disable the filter, select or clear the check box next to the filter definition. To modify the filter, click the Edit Filter button. The Filter Editor dialog window opens, from which you can add and modify conditions and the logical operators linking them.

Update the target case
Click the Update button to update the target case. On each row with a selected check box, the Status value goes from Different to Identical.
Updatable items
When updating single-plant cases, the following elements can be updated.
|
Case details |
Property environments* |
||
|
The mapping between process models and process unit modes |
|||
|
Feeds |
Overrides (see also the last row for overrides to reference data) |
||
|
Opening inventory pricing scenarios |
Final inventory pricing scenarios |
Multi-period run settings |
|
|
Price set overrides |
Process model overrides |
Feedstock overrides |
Grade overrides |
* Property environments do not appear as items within the user interface and cannot be manually edited. A property environment contains the details about how a particular property is being used. For example, for density the property environment describes the property (density) and the measurement temperature (15°C). Property environments are created automatically when properties are added to the case, for instance via calculations.
When updating network cases, the following elements can be updated.
|
Information on the cases representing plants in particular periods |
|||
|
Transport link pricing scenarios |
|||
|
All groups (supply, demand, transport link, inventory) |
|||
* In some cases, Update Case does not correctly update price sets in Network models. This may happen when new price sets are added to the source case, and the list of price sets in the source case is reordered.
Update multi period or multi plant models from single plants

When updating a multi-period or multi plant model from the original source plant, it is necessary to update a multi-period Target Plant with settings from the source plant case. Select the single-plant case in the source which should be used for the new settings, then choose the plant case in the multi-period model which should have these settings merged.
The source or target plant is an embedded plant case within the multi-period or multi-plant model. These are usually created automatically when a new multi-period or multi-plant model is made and new period definitions added.
