Use crude composition constraints to ensure that no crude, or group of crudes, exceeds a given fraction of the distillation unit feed. You can express constraints in volume or weight percentages by selecting either option near the top of the section.

Manage Nodes

You set crude composition constraints on one or more nodes. For example, if you have multiple distillation units you may want to define a node for each.

To add a node:

  1. Click the Add Node link. The Create Crude Composition Node pane opens.

Dialog to name and create a new crude composition node

  2. Enter a name for the node.

  3. Click Create. The new node is added to the Crude Composition Constraints section.

To edit a node name:

  1. Click the Pencil icon icon near the top right corner of the node pane. The Edit Crude Composition Node pane opens.

  2. Edit the name of the node.

  3. Click Update. The node name is changed.

    To delete a node:

    1. Click the Trash can icon icon near the top right corner of the node pane. The Remove Node? dialog box opens.

    2. Click Remove. The node is deleted, together with all related composition constraints.

      Manage Composition Constraints

To add a composition constraint for a crude or a material group in a node:

      1. Click Add Crude Composition Constraint in the corresponding node pane. The Create Crude Composition Constraint pane opens.

Pane with fields to create a Crude Composition Constraint setting

      2. Start typing the crude or group name in the Constraint name field. Select the crude or group from the list that appears.

      3. In the Constraint limit field, enter the maximum percentage allowed for the crude or group in the distillation unit feed. This is either a volume or weight percentage according to the option set near the top of the Crude Composition Constraints section.

      4. Click Create. The constraint is added to the node pane.

        To edit a composition constraint:

        1. Click the ellipsis icon (Three dots icon) at the end of the corresponding row. A list of additional icons appears.

        2. Click the Pencil icon icon. The Edit Crude Composition Constraint pane opens. This has the same fields as the Create Crude Composition Constraint pane.

        3. Once you have made your changes, click Update.

          To delete a composition constraint:

          1. Click the ellipsis icon (Three dots icon) at the end of the corresponding row. A list of additional icons appears.

          2. Click the Trash can icon icon. The Remove crude composition constraint? dialog box opens.

          3. Click Remove. The constraint is deleted.

Note: After you have made changes to the Advanced Settings page, you must click the Save button at the bottom right corner of the window before leaving the page. If you try to leave the page by clicking Back to optimize and there are unsaved changes, you are prompted to save them.
