The Baselines page, showing asset data for the selected baseline

A baseline is a snapshot of the scheduling case, as represented by tank amounts, compositions and property values, at a certain time during the scheduling period.

Baselines are useful to capture the status of the scheduling case before making changes, so that you can easily compare relevant quantities before and after the changes.

Note: AVEVA recommends that you ensure your database is up to date, by synchronizing your database using the Synchronize pane, before taking a baseline. For more details, see Multi User Collaboration.

Manage baselines

To create a baseline, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Plus button button. The Add New Baseline dialog opens.

  2. Clear the Active check box if you want the baseline to be inactive. You can always change the active status later.

  3. In the Time field enter the date and time of the baseline in the scheduling period.

  4. Enter a Name for the baseline. The default name is the date and time of the baseline.

  5. Optionally, enter a Description for the baseline.

  6. Click OK. The Add New Baseline window closes and the new baseline is created.

To edit an existing baseline, select it in the drop-down menu and click the Edit button button. The Edit Baseline window opens, which has the same fields as the Add New Baseline window.

To delete a baseline, select it in the drop-down menu and click the Delete button button.

Item

Description

Source

The source asset of the measurement.

Destination

The destination asset of the measurement.

Type

The type of measurement. Can be one of the following:

  • Composition: the ratio of a given material in the source tank.

  • Property: a property value.

  • Tank Inventory: the amount of the source tank.

  • Pipeline Inventory: the amount of material in a pipeline batch.

Details

Details on the measurement:

  • For type Composition, the feedstock to which the composition value refers.

  • For type Property, the property name.

  • For type Tank Inventory this value is always set to Inventory.

  • For type Pipeline Inventory, the name of the batch.

UoM

The unit of measure of the value.

Simulated

The value as simulated by the scheduling case.

Snapshot

The value as it was when the baseline was created. This is initially the same as the Simulated value, but the two values may diverge if the scheduling case is modified after the baseline has been created.

Override

An optional value you can enter to override the Snapshot value.

Effective Baseline

The effective baseline values. These correspond to the Snapshot values or, when present, to the Override values.

Baselines and overrides

The Override column in the Baselines page showing different types of override

When baseline values are overridden and the baseline is active, these overrides are shown on the Overrides pane. Individual override values can have their activity changed using the Overrides pane.

The Baselines page allows overrides to be specified in terms of formulae as well as by entering absolute values.

Roll forward

  1. Adjust the scheduling horizon

    Go to the Settings page.

The General tab of the Settings page, showing fields for Start Date, End Date and Time Zone

Configure the Start Date and End Date fields in the Settings page to ensure the correct time horizon is set (see: Duration).

  2. Create a baseline

Go to the Baselines page. Click the Plus button button to create a baseline for the new start date and time.

Part of the Baselines page with the mouse pointer on the plus button to add a new baseline

  3. Re-simulate and review diagnostics

Re-simulate the schedule based on the new baseline information. Review the generated diagnostics.

    Remove old data

Reduce the size of your scheduling cases by removing old data no longer relevant to the current scheduling period.

Choose the data to remove by selecting a baseline. The baseline must be before the start of the current scheduling period. All data items fully before the baseline are deleted.

    1. In the Baselines page, click Model clean-up in the Maintenance group of the Home ribbon tab. The Model clean-up dialog opens.

Note that the Model clean-up button is disabled if no suitable baseline exists.

The Model clean-up dialog, with a calendar widget and a link to jump to the most recent baseline

    2. In the Model clean-up dialog, choose a date corresponding to the baseline you want to use. Days without a baseline appear dimmed.

    3. Click OK. A confirmation dialog opens.

    4. Click OK. All the data before the baseline are deleted.

Warning: You cannot undo this action.
