You can impose minimum and maximum constraints on the overall flow of material in the following configurations:

  • From one source to one destination.

  • From multiple sources to one destination.

  • From one source to multiple destinations.

For example, you could impose minimum and maximum constraints on the overall flow of crude from several tanks to a distillation unit.

You can define separate constraints for different groups of sources and destinations.

To create a flow constraint setting, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Create Flow Constraint link. The Create Flow Constraint pane opens.

Pane with fields to create a Flow Constraint setting

  2. Click the Plus icon icon next to Sources to add a source asset. As you start typing, a list of matching node names appears. Click on a list item to select the node. Add multiple sources by clicking the Plus icon icon again. To delete a source, click the Trash can icon icon next to it.

You cannot add more than one source if you have already added multiple destinations (see the next step).

  3. Click the Plus icon icon next to Destinations to add a destination asset. Type in the field that appears to see a list of matching destination names. Add multiple destinations by clicking the Plus icon icon again. To delete a destination, click the Trash can icon icon next to it.

You cannot add more than one destination if you have added multiple sources in the previous step.

  4. Choose whether to express the constraint in m3/d or tonnes/d (cubic meters per day or tonnes per day).

  5. Enter the Lower Limit for the constraint. This is the lowest combined flow rate between the chosen sources and destinations. You can leave this field blank to set no minimum constraint.

  6. Enter the Upper Limit for the constraint. This is the highest combined flow rate between the chose sources and destinations. You can leave this field blank to set no maximum constraint.

  7. Click Create to create the flow constraint.

To edit a flow constraint setting:

  1. Click the ellipsis icon (Three dots icon) at the end of the corresponding row of the Flow Constraints pane. A list of additional icons appears.

  2. Click the Pencil icon icon. The Edit Flow Constraint pane opens. This has the same fields as the Create Flow Constraint pane.

  3. Once you have made your changes, click Update.

To delete a flow constraint setting:

    1. Click the ellipsis icon (Three dots icon) at the end of the corresponding row of the Flow Constraints pane. A list of additional icons appears.

    2. Click the Trash can icon icon. The Remove Flow Constraint? dialog box opens.

    3. Click Remove. The setting is deleted.

Note: After you have made changes to the Advanced Settings page, you must click the Save button at the bottom right corner of the window before leaving the page. If you try to leave the page by clicking Back to optimize and there are unsaved changes, you are prompted to save them.
