Apply and attach rules

Rules can be applied or attached. The difference is whether the rules are applied at a particular time and invoked based on the asset at that time, or whether the rules are associated with a particular asset and invoked over time based on any activities which occur at that asset within the rule period.

Apply rule

The Apply Rule dialog showing the fields described in the text and panes for rule-generated activities and configurations, and diagnostic messages

Rules can be applied at a particular time. When a rule is applied at a particular time, appropriate activities are generated for the selected asset based on the rule conditions. To apply a rule at a particular time:

  1. In either the Tabular or Gantt pane, right-click a point at the time when you wish the rule to be applied. You can edit this time later, so you do not need to be very precise.

  2. Choose Apply Rule from the context menu. The Apply Rule dialog box opens.

  3. Select the asset where the rule should be invoked in the Apply To menu.

  4. Select the rule to apply in the Rule menu.

  5. If required edit the Start time.

  6. Click OK. The rule is applied.

Attach rule

The Attach Rule dialog, showing rule attachments for the selected asset and rule

Rules can be attached to assets for a time duration. When a rule is attached if any activities occur at that asset that meet any of the rules conditions then activities are generated based on the rule conditions. To attach a rule to an asset:

  1. In either the Tabular or Gantt pane, right-click and choose Attach Rule from the context menu. The Attach Rule dialog box opens.

  2. Select the Asset where the rule will be applied. This must already have a configured rule available.

  3. Select the Rule to apply and click the Plus button button.

  4. Select the rule in the Rule Attachments section and change the Start time at which the rule may be invoked; this can be a specific time, or relative to the current start time of the schedule.

  5. Select the duration of time which the rule is applied for.

  6. Click OK. The rule is attached.
