Clear model data

The Model Maintenance group of the Tools ribbon tab in the Model Explorer gives you various options to remove data from the selected model.

The Model Maintenance ribbon group with its five buttons highlighted

Note: The buttons are disabled if multiple models are selected, or if one or more cases from the selected model are open.

Clean model

Click Clean Model to remove unused reference data objects from the selected model. Unused objects of the following types are removed:

  • Old flowsheet visualizations.

  • Fixed materials.

  • Process models.

  • Old plant associations left after changing plant associations.

  • Old assay tables left after removing a distillation unit.

  • Price sets.

  • Specifications (Plan only).

  • Feedstock definitions (Plan only).

AVEVA recommends that you periodically clean your models to reduce their size. This may improve the performance of getting data from the server and sending data to the Calculation Hub.

In particular, you should clean your model in the following situations:

  • When you have finished building a new model.

  • After creating a copy of a model, since the copy is effectively a newly built model.

  • After copying a case from a model to another one. Clean the destination model to remove any reference data brought by the copied case and no longer needed.

  • After deleting a case from a model. There could be reference data used only by the deleted case and no longer needed.

  • After using the Update Case feature. Updating a case could bring unneeded reference data into the destination model.

The following are instead examples of situations in which cleaning a model is not needed:

  • After adding new cases, including analytics.

  • After editing constraints in cases.

  • After simulating or optimizing cases.

Clear results

Click Clear Results to remove all the latest results generated from optimizing or simulating the selected model. This reduces the size of the model.

If you want to remove the result of just a few cases in the model, use the Clear results for selected cases button, described later in this topic.

Clear assay data

Click Clear Assay Data to remove all the automatically generated assay data from the selected model, and optionally manual data as well.

When you click the button, a dialog box opens with two choices.

Clear Assay Data prompt with options to remove all recut assays or remove all recut assays and associated edits

  • Remove all recut assays: remove only automatically generated assay data.

  • Remove all recut assays and associated edits: also remove manually entered property values. This includes old manual assay data corresponding to feedstocks that have since been removed from the model.

Manual assay data in historical versions of the model are not affected in either case.

Assays are recut when you next optimize the model. Manually entered property values, if they have not been deleted when clearing assay data, are preserved.

Clear toolbox

This button removes objects of type Process Model Toolbox Information from the selected model. The number of these objects can increase over time in Network models as a result of normal workflows, such as extracting, adding and updating plant models. These extra objects are not needed and increase the model size, leading to more time needed for Get operations.

Click the Clear Toolbox button as part of your regular model maintenance, to remove superfluous objects and reduce model size.

Clear results for selected cases

Unlike the Clear Results button, described earlier in this topic, this button only removes the results of the cases selected in the case hierarchy, rather than all the cases in the model.
