A basic Polar Star symbol includes normalized setpoints to produce a regular shaped polygon around the origin of the spokes. Measured values also produce a polygon, which is shown with a thicker black line than the setpoint polygon.

The following changes are required when configuring a basic Polar Star symbol:

  • Assign a reference to a measured value for each spoke of the Polar Star.

  • Assign a setpoint value to each spoke of the Polar Star.

All other possible configuration changes are optional.

To configure a basic Polar Star symbol

  1. Drop a Polar Star symbol in a WindowMaker window or embed it in a symbol from the Industrial Graphic Editor.

  2. Show the symbol's default list of custom properties.

    • From WindowMaker, double-click on the symbol and click the Custom Properties tab to show the default custom properties.

    • From the Industrial Graphic Editor, right-click the symbol and select Custom Properties from the shortcut menu to show the defaults in the Custom Properties dialog box.

  3. Select Spoke1PV and set a reference to a measured value.

  4. Repeat step 3 to assign measured values to all remaining spokes in the Polar Star symbol.

  5. Select Spoke1SP and assign a setpoint value to spoke 1.

  6. Repeat step 5 to assign setpoints to all remaining spokes.

  7. Click OK to save your configuration changes.

  8. If you want, assign optional string values to the symbol's labels.

    1. Right-click on the symbol, select Substitute, and then select Substitute Strings.

    2. Enter string values into the fields of the Substitute Strings dialog box that match the default strings shown for the symbol and click OK.

  9. Save the symbol and check it in if you are working in the Industrial Graphic Editor.

  10. If necessary, deploy the Galaxy containing the object with attributes that are used as reference values of the custom properties.

  11. Double-click an instance of InTouch ViewApp to start WindowMaker.

  12. Embed the symbol containing the symbol in an InTouch window.

  13. Run the application in WindowViewer to verify that your basic symbol configuration works correctly.
