A Polar Star spoke shows a current measured value and its assigned setpoint. Lines are drawn from adjacent spokes to their measured values to form a measured value polygon.
Likewise, lines are drawn from adjacent spokes to their setpoints to form a setpoint polygon. Setpoint values can be normalized to create a regularly shaped polygon to standardize among all spokes the measured values shown by each spoke. Line thickness identifies each polygon. The lines of a measured value polygon are thicker than the setpoint polygon.
Polar Star setpoint and measured value polygons together create an easily recognizable visual element during normal operating conditions. The measured value polygon changes shape as measured values move along the length of spokes to different values. Operators can quickly recognize abnormal conditions when the shape of the measured value polygon changes in relationship to the setpoint polygon.
