Configure a basic SA_Meters symbol using ArchestrA attributes

The basic configuration of the SA_Meters symbol is a flow meter oriented vertically with a descriptive label and a numeric measured value that appears next to the meter bar.

To configure a basic SA_Meters symbol, you only need to assign reference values to three custom properties and set strings for the symbol's label and engineering units.

Prerequisites

This procedure explains how to configure a basic SA_Meters symbol using references to attributes of an ArchestrA automation object.

  • To follow the steps of this procedure, create an ArchestrA object that meets the following requirements:

    • Create an Analog PV field attribute

    • Enable I/O scaling with the input clamped to the EU range

    • Enable limit alarms with limits specified for HiHi, Hi, Lo, and LoLo alarms

  • Create an InTouch application with a window to verify that the symbol has been configured correctly.

To configure a basic SA_Meters symbol using ArchestrA attributes

This procedure explains how to use the ArchestrA Substitute References utility to quickly assign ArchestrA attributes to the custom properties of a symbol.

  1. Embed the symbol in another symbol in the Industrial Graphic Editor.

  2. Select the symbol.

  3. Press Ctrl + E to show the Substitute References dialog box.

    You should see the seven custom properties listed that need to be assigned reference values.

  4. Click Find & Replace.

    1. Type Me in the Find What? field.

    2. Type the name of the ArchestrA object you created in the Replace with field.

    3. Click Replace All to substitute the name of your ArchestrA object in the custom property references.

    4. Click OK after all custom property references have been substituted.

  5. If you want, you can optionally change the Label that appears above the symbol and assign a different unit of measure to the EU label.

    1. Right-click on the symbol and select Substitute Strings from the shortcut menu.

    2. Assign different names for Label and EU.

    3. Click OK.

  6. Save the symbol and check it in.

  7. If necessary, deploy the Galaxy containing the object with attributes that are used as reference values of the custom properties.

  8. Double-click an instance of InTouch ViewApp to start WindowMaker.

  9. Create a new InTouch window and embed the symbol containing the SA_Meters symbol.

  10. Run the application in WindowViewer to verify that your basic symbol configuration works correctly.

To configure a basic SA_Meters symbol using owning objects

The procedure explains how to configure a symbol using owning objects to assign ArchestrA attributes to the custom properties of a symbol.

  1. Embed the symbol in another symbol from the Industrial Graphic Editor.

  2. Select the symbol and scroll the Properties pane at the right of the window until you see the Runtime Behavior area.

  3. Click the OwningObject field to show the Instances window.

  4. Select an object from the list that you want to be the owing object and whose attribute objects will be automatically assigned to the symbol's custom properties.

    If you know the name of the object, simply enter the name in the OwningObject field.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Save the symbol and check it in.

  7. If necessary, deploy the Galaxy containing the object whose attributes are used as reference values of the custom properties.

  8. Double-click an instanced of InTouch ViewApp to start WindowMaker.

  9. Create a new InTouch window and embed the symbol containing the SA_Meters symbol.

  10. Run the application in WindowViewer to verify that your basic symbol configuration works correctly.
