Dynamic workflows

The topics in this section describe the dynamic workflow for different entities and how to configure them in AVEVA™ Operational Safety Management Administration. A workflow is based on customizable Statuses and Processes.

Customizable

The workflow for an entity is highly-customizable and configurable; hence the name dynamic.

Each type of entity, such as Work Permits or Risk Assessments, can have its own customized process workflow.

The work item has a life cycle, which is presented by a set of statuses. The path between the statuses are workflow actions.

Entity life cycle

During the workflow, a work item, such as a work permit, moves from one status to the next by means of performing a process.

The entity life cycle always has a starting point and two ending points.

Starting point

  • The starting point in the workflow is always represented by the default New status (even if it is renamed).

  • Every new work item will be in the starting point status when it is created.

  • The New status is defined by OSM and cannot be reconfigured or removed from the system.

  • The New status cannot be deactivated.

  • You can rename the values for the Description property and the Code property of the New status.

The default value is 100 - New. However, it is possible to change either of these values according to business need; for example: 100 - New Start or 111 - Initialize.

  • The starting point status appears in green to show it is an OSM system status.

Ending points

  • The two ending statuses in a workflow (Closed and Canceled) are defined by OSM and cannot be reconfigured or removed from the system.

  • All work items will end in one of the ending point statuses.

  • The ending statuses cannot be deactivated.

  • You can rename the values for the Description property and the Code property.

The default values are 800 - Closed and 900 - Canceled. However, it is possible to change either of these values according to business need; for example: 800 - Completed or 999 - Voided.

  • These two ending point statuses appear in green to show they are OSM system statuses.
