AVEVA™ P&ID

Upgrade Items on Legacy Drawings

  • Last UpdatedMar 14, 2024

When a project is upgraded from older versions of AVEVA P&ID, specifically versions 6.2 to 7.2, pipes and other items on drawings must be upgraded on a drawing-by-drawing basis.

Upgrade Pipes

A revised version of pipe lines that improved the performance and usability of the application considerably was introduced with AVEVA P&ID 7.2 SP3.

For projects developed using previous versions of AVEVA P&ID, an upgrade of the pipes and symbols on the project drawings is required before the drawings can be used in AVEVA P&ID 7.2 SP3 or AVEVA P&ID 12.0 or later.

If a drawing that includes legacy pipes is opened, the following message is displayed:

Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

To upgrade pipes on legacy drawings select the Upgrade Pipes option in the Project Configuration group of the Utilities tab.

When the upgrade is complete, the following message is displayed:

Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

It is possible the upgrade may result in the sequence numbers of the components of upgraded pipes being out of order, for example, not reflecting the graphical order of the components. The Correct Upgraded Pipe Component Sequence Numbers procedure should therefore be carried out.

Upgrade Other Items

When a project is upgraded from an older version of AVEVA P&ID (6.2 to 7.2), Instrument, Reducer and Inline Equipment entities properties must be amended to be compatible with the current version.

This will happen automatically when a legacy drawing is opened in AVEVA P&ID.

Alternatively, start the procedure by entering UPGRADE_LEGACY_ENTIITES at the Command prompt.

Note: If the USER_SKIP_INSTRUMENTTYPE_UPGRADE user-defined directive in the Miscellaneous – Settings Sub-Category is set to Yes, instrument labels will not be upgraded by this process.
If the USER_SKIP_EQUIPMENTTYPE_UPGRADE user-defined directive is set to 'Yes', equipment labels will not be upgraded by this process.
The user must instead delete the labels and then create new labels by following the usual labelling procedures.

After the procedure is complete, the number of upgraded entities is displayed at the Command prompt.
