Label by Selection of a Reference Object

  • Last UpdatedMar 14, 2024
  • 1 minute read

The properties of equipment, inline equipment, instruments, valves, instrument valves and pipes can be completed by selecting another item of the same type from a list of values on their Properties Dialogs. The "child" item is then labelled with all the properties of the referenced "parent" item, including the tag properties, UDAs and DataSet values. In the case of pipes, properties are taken from the pipe head. Any properties already entered for the child item, including inherited properties, are replaced.

An item can be referenced by any number of other items. "Child" items can themselves be referenced items. A change to the properties of either a child or a parent item will automatically update the properties of the other item.

The tags of items that reference other items are not subject to rules regarding tag uniqueness with regard to each other.

Refer to Label Equipment (with or without Trim), Label General Valves, Label General Instruments and Label Pipes.

Note: Referenced pipes cannot be split, merged, or have a different segment set as the main pipe segment.

Reducers

Reducers placed on "child" pipes automatically reference reducers on the "parent" pipe. When the first reducer is placed on a "child" pipe, it will automatically become a "child" reducer of the first reducer on the "parent" pipe, and assigned its properties. The second reducer placed will automatically become a "child" of the second reducer on the "parent" pipe, and so on. "Child" reducers cannot be edited. All editing must be done to the "parent" reducers.

Refer to Label Reducers.
