Guidelines to Identify Item Type Behaviour

With a few exceptions, as a general rule the first letter of a P&ID item type will help users to identify the expected behaviour of the objects allocated with them.

P.: Item types starting with "P" describe pipe related objects, for instance a pipe segment will have item type PMA.

I.: Item types starting with "I" describe inline, process connected or remote instrument related objects, for instance an instrument measurement balloon will have item type INS.

L.: Item types starting with "L" describe inline items or generic pipe fittings for instance a flange will have item type LFI.

V.: Item types starting with "V" describe valves items, for instance a three way valve will have item type VL3.

E.: Item types starting with "E" describe equipment items, for instance a vessel will have item type EQV.

S.: Item types starting with "S" describe signal lines, for instance an electric signal line will have in the sample item type SEL. User can create user define item types for signal lines that must start with letter S.

X.: Item types starting with "X" describe text annotations, for instance the tag annotation for a valve will have item type XVT. User can create user defined item types for text annotations to allocate them against selected user define attributes.

R.: Item types starting with "R" describe reducers or expanders, for instance an eccentric reducer will have item type "RDE".
