Apply Filters to Symbols

A project may be set up so that only project symbols located in a specific folder are available to a drawing, for example, a folder with the same name as the drawing’s filter value.

Other drawings will not be able to access symbols in this folder (unless they share the same filter value), and the drawing will only be able to access symbols in this folder and in project "common" folders, such as the Assemblies folder. A Common folder may also be set up which all drawings will have access to.

Create the drawing specific folders as sub-folders in the Project Symbol Path folder (refer to Project Configuration Category of the AVEVA P&ID Administration program). Name them with the filter values of the drawings in question. The Common folder should also be created there.

For example, if a drawing has a filter value of 722, create a folder called 722, and place the required symbols and sub-folders in it. The top-level folders in the Symbol Explorer for the drawing will then appear as follows.

Note: the Common and Assemblies folders are also available

Note: Standard symbols, for example, symbols under the Standard node of the Symbol Explorer, will still be available for the drawing, unless the Standard node is hidden using the USER_HideStandardSymbolExplorerNode user-defined directive. Refer to the Miscellaneous Configuration Category - Settings Sub-Category of the AVEVA P&ID Administration program for details.

Alternatively, symbol folders and sub-folders may be setup so that a concatenation of their names forms the filter values of drawings.

For example, a folder called 72 may be created, with sub-folders called 2, 3 and 4 within it. The concatenations of the names of this folder and sub-folders are 722, 723 and 724. Only drawings with these filter values will have access to those sub-folders, for example, for a drawing with a filter value of 722, the folder structure in the Symbol Explorer will appear as follows:
