Skids can be added to a drawing. All intelligent items contained within wholly or (optionally) partly within a skid is assigned to that skid and allocated the properties of that skid.
For details of the use of this procedure in the context of drawing P&IDs, refer to Label Symbols and Pipes.
Example

Associated Project Configuration Options
-
The project package number and whether or not items partially within a skid are included in that skid are also set using the Equipment - Skid Settings Sub-Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program.
-
Skid styles are also created using the Equipment - Skid Settings Sub-Category.
-
Label settings for skids are shared with equipment (for example, equipment settings also apply to skids). Refer to Label Equipment (with or without Trim) for details of the relevant project configuration options.
Procedure
Add and Label Skids
-
Start the procedure by selecting the required skid style from the list of skid styles in the Skid group of the Home tab.
-
Skids can be added in two ways:
-
To add a skid by defining its area, select the Draw Skid option in the Skid group of the Home tab and follow the instructions of the Command prompt to draw the required area of the skid.
-
To add a skid by selecting polylines, select the Create Skid option in the Skid group of the Home tab and follow the instructions of the Command prompt to select the polylines.
For example:
Select polylines:
Note: If an item is located within nested skids, for example, within two (or more) skids, one completely within the other, then the item is allocated to both those skids. In AVEVA P&ID Reports for example, such equipment will be listed with the tags, handles, dataset attributes etc. of both the skids that the equipment is located within.
Note: If an item is located within an area where two or more skids overlap, but are not nested, the item will be allocated to the skid with the smaller area. If an item is part of overlapping skids which have the same area, it is automatically assigned to the first one drawn.
Note: If a skid is moved or re-sized, or if items are moved or subsequently added to the drawing, skid allocation is updated automatically. For example, if an item is moved into the area of a skid, that item is automatically assigned to that skid.
-
-
The AVEVA P&ID Skid Properties dialog for the skid is then displayed:

Enter the skid details and click OK.
-
The procedure is now complete. Details of the skid that an item is assigned to are displayed in its Properties dialog. For example:

Change the Style of Existing Skids
Before starting this procedure, select the style that the skids are to be changed to from the list in the Skid group of the Home tab.
-
Start the procedure by selecting the Change Style option in the Skid group of the Home tab.
-
The Command prompt will display:
Select skid to change to XXX:
(where ‘XXX’ is the currently loaded style).
Select each skid in turn to change the skid style. The style of each skid changes dynamically as it is selected.
-
Press or select Enter to end the command.
Add Custom Skid Labels
-
Use this procedure to add custom labels to skids, instead of or in addition to standard labels.
Start the procedure by right-clicking on the skid and selecting the Add Label option from the shortcut menu.
-
The following menu is then displayed:

If the skid is to be labelled with a label in a non-default label format, select the Customize option. If the skid is to be labelled with only a single property of the equipment, select that property, e.g. Type, from the menu.
-
If the Customize option is selected, the following dialog is displayed:

Select the Custom Label from the top list, then select the required format from the table beneath the lists.
The top list also includes options to select a single property (select the Single Label option and then the required property, e.g. Type, from the list below it), or the default label format (select the Full Label option).
Click Add Label & Close to add the label and finish the procedure. Click Add Label if further labels are to be added to the pipe using the dialog.
If the Add Label & Close button was selected, the command then ends. If the Add Label button was selected, the above dialog is displayed again. Add further labels as described above.
Add Skid Headers
The procedure can be used to add headers to skids. Headers include skid labels plus any other required text as entered by the user. If a skid label is changed, the skid label in the skid header is automatically updated.
-
Start the procedure by right-clicking on the skid and selecting the Add Header option from the shortcut menu.

From the sub-menu that is then displayed, select Full Header to add the full skid header. To place an individual skid property, select the required property from the sub-menu instead. To place a custom header, select Customize.
-
If a Full Header or an individual property was selected, the Command prompt will display:
Insert skid header label:
Place the header near the skid item. The command ends automatically.
-
If the Customize option was selected, the following dialog is displayed:

Select the required custom label format from the list.
Click Add Label & Close to add the label and finish the procedure. Click Add Label if further labels are to be added to the pipe using the dialog.
-
The Command prompt will then display:
Insert Skid Customized Label Header:
Place the header near the equipment item.
