The Signal Styles application pane is used to configure signal styles for the project.

The application pane is divided into the following sections.
Flow Arrows Section
If flow arrows are required at the end of signal lines, check the Automatic Arrows checkbox, then select the symbol to be used for these arrows from the Symbol Name list.
Edit the Signal Styles with Import from Excel Spreadsheets
The signal styles can be efficiently edited by exporting them to an Excel spreadsheet, editing it in that spreadsheet, and then by importing the amended list back into AVEVA P&ID.
The procedure is as follows:
-
Select the signal styles to be exported from the List of Values list.
-
Select the Export to Excel link. A message is then displayed requesting that the user confirm that the export is to take place:

-
Click Yes. The selected styles are then exported to a spreadsheet. When the export is complete, a message is displayed to inform the user of this, and giving the location of the exported file. For example:

-
The signal styles can now be edited in Excel. Click the Open Excel link to open it.
Note: The Open Excel and Import from Excel links are disabled until an export takes place, and disabled again once the changed list of values is imported back into AVEVA P&ID.
-
Add, edit and delete signal styles as required, and then save the file.
-
To import the changed signal styles back into AVEVA P&ID, select the Import from Excel link. A message is then displayed requesting that the user confirm that the import is to take place. Click Yes to continue.
-
The signal styles are the grid is then updated to reflect the changes made in the spreadsheet.
Signal Style Section
This section of the application pane consists of a Default Signal Line Style field, which has a drop down list for selecting the default Signal Style.

Signal Line Styles Grid
The grid is used to view, create and edit the project signal line styles.
Create New Signal Line Styles
If a signal line style is to be created, select
. The following dialog box is then displayed:

Enter a unique value for the signal line style and click OK.
The dialog box will be closed and the entered new value will be displayed in the Signal Name column.
Once a signal line style has been added its layer and colour must be configured in the Item Types - Signal Sub-Category.
For the complete procedure for creating new signal line styles, refer to Define a New Signal Line Type.
Edit Signal Styles
When editing an existing signal line style, you can select a P&ID Type from a list of values, select the base AutoCAD line style from the Line Type field, and add or change the description in the Type field.
When defining a new signal style, a new P&ID type has to be created. This is achieved by assigning a unique type value of three characters, starting with 'S'. AVEVA P&ID will then recognize this as a new signal line type. Then select the base AutoCAD line style from the Line Type field, and add or change the description in the Type field.
The default Line Type Scale value is 2. This may be changed if required. The entered value will be applied to the signal lines of that type when they are created in the main application.
To edit a signal style name, select
and enter the new value in the dialog that is then displayed.
