Compare and Update with External Data

The Compare/Update facility in AVEVA P&ID can compare and update data either from other locally installed AVEVA applications (AVEVA Electrical, Instrumentation, Engineering and Schematics) and Excel spreadsheets, or data provided by a service from another AVEVA P&ID project, or an Excel spreadsheet.
If required, differences in data in these other sources can be used to update data in the current project.
Before using the facility compare/update a number of setup procedures must be completed. See AVEVA P&ID Reports documentation for details of these setup procedures.
Procedure

Start the procedure by selecting the Compare Update Link option in the Compare group of the Manage tab. The P&ID Reports database is then logged into using the user role and password specified when the AVEVA P&ID project was opened.

The Compare Update Data Palette is then displayed:

If only data from the current drawing is to be compared/updated, select the Current Drawing Data option from the Drawing Selection field list. If data from all project drawings is to be compared/updated, select the Project Data option,

From the list to the right of the Drawing Selection field list select the data source type. For example, AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Electrical, Instrumentation, Engineering, Schematics and Excel.

Once the source is selected, the user must then login to it (or in the case of a local Excel file, browse for the file). Click Login:
. The appropriate login dialog is then displayed for the source. for example, is the
source is AVEVA P&ID, the Select an AVEVA P&ID Project dialog is then displayed:

Complete the login procedure as required. for example, for an AVEVA P&ID source, select the project for which the configuration will be created, edited or deleted, and click Select.

Note: Once the source has been logged into, the Login button changes to a Logoff button. This can be used to log off from a source. The button then changes back to a Login button and can be used again to login to a different source, such as a different AVEVA P&ID project.

From the right-hand most list, select the required compare/update configuration or configuration group. The list will consist of those set up in AVEVA P&ID Reports for the selected data source type.

The compare operation will then take place. The results of this are then displayed in palette. For example:

The rows which are matched are shown in the tab named after the selected data source.
To re-run the compare operation click Refresh:

The background colours of the rows indicate the status of the data in the rows, as configured in AVEVA P&ID Reports.

The current AVEVA P&ID database may now be updated with selected differences found by the compare process.
Note: Whether or not new records can be added to the database is controlled by the setting of the "Allow Insertion" setting for the selected configuration in AVEVA P&ID Reports. If the checkbox is not checked, new records cannot be added. Only existing records may be changed.
To select which differences are to update the database, check the Accept checkbox for the row containing the difference.
To check all Accept checkboxes, click Accept All:

Once the required changes have been selected, select Update Database:
. The Update database dialog is then displayed:

The dialog displays a summary of the changes that will be made to the database. To implement these changes, select UpdateDB.
