Use Datasets to Add Labels to Equipment

Datasets can be used to label equipment in a very effective way. Users can create datasets in the Project Administrator for equipment as required, and then enter the appropriate values for them in properties dialog of the equipment.

To label equipment with such datasets follow these steps, either right click on the equipment and select the Insert UDAs option, or select the equipment then select Insert UDAs from Symbol section or the Home tab.

Select the required datasets which are to be used for labelling and enter the offset values as required, then click OK.

If the positions of label designators relative to the insertion point and each other is to be fixed, check the Fix position of designators checkbox and enter the relative position in the X Offset and Y Offset fields.

The value in the X Offset field controls the horizontal distance between each label designator and its value. The value in the Y-Offset field controls the vertical distance between each line of label designators and values when multiple labels are selected for insertion.

If the label is to be displayed as multi-line text, check the Use multi-line text checkbox and define the text box size using the Defined Width and Line Distance Space fields.

The value in the Defined Width field controls the horizontal width of the text box. The value in the Line Distance Space field controls the vertical line spacing for the text.

By default, the User Defined Data dialog only displays those designators that have values defined against them. In order to have the User Defined Data dialog display all designators, check the Display All Designators checkbox. Designators without values display a place-holder in the value column,for example:

<INS Altitude value>

Where "INS" indicates the relevant entity type (in this example instrument) and "Altitude" is the designator name.

To underline the text in the label, select the Underline text box.

The user will then have to pick a point where the selected datasets will be placed as per the offset values for that equipment. For example:
