The procedure can be used to label sub-equipment (typically electrical equipment).
By default, equipment is labelled with "standard" labels in the default format as set up in the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program. Equipment may also be labelled with "custom" labels, either instead of or in addition to "standard" labels. Custom labels may either be labels in a non-default label formats, or be a single equipment tag property. Separate labels for trim may also be added.
For details of the use of this procedure in the context of drawing P&IDs, refer to Label Equipment (with or without Trim).
Example

Associated Project Configuration Options
-
The number of equipment label fields, four or six, is specified in the Number Of TAG fields section of the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
The boilerplate text to replace the defaults of Block, Function, Prefix, Tag, Number and Suffix in the Equipment Properties dialog is specified in the Dialog Box Field labels section of the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
To set the last value entered in a Properties dialog field to automatically populate that field that next time that Properties dialog is accessed for an unlabelled item of that item type, use the checkboxes in the Values to Remember from Last Equipment Edit section of the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
Inheritance between equipment label and sheet attribute fields, and whether or not inherited values are displayed on P&IDs, is set up using the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
The project may be set to check that equipment labels in all P&IDs in the project are unique using the Label Validation across P&IDs section of the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
Whether or not equipment tags are to be underlined on P&IDs is specified in the Equipment - Settings Sub-Category.
-
Whether or not delimiters are required after fields in an equipment label is specified in the Label Format section of the Equipment - Labels Sub-Category. The delimiters to be used are chosen in the same section.
-
Whether or not fixed equipment label formatting is in use, and the coordinates of label components if it is not, are specified in the Equipment Label Position section of the Equipment - Labels Sub-Category.
-
The format in which equipment labels are displayed on a drawing are defined in the Equipment Label Format section of the Equipment - Labels Sub-Category.
-
Equipment labels may automatically have a symbol placed with them when they are inserted. For example, they may be placed in a box. This functionality is switched on and off, the required symbol selected, whether manual placement is required and if not the offset from the label specified using the Equipment Label Symbol section of the Equipment - Labels Sub-Category.
-
Automatic tagging of equipment number fields (see Automatic Tagging) is switched on and formatted in the Equipment - Automatic Tag Format Sub-Category.
-
If it is required that the design area is used as the prefix for the equipment, the Design area from Title Block used for Instrument Label Field 1 checkbox has been checked in the Drawing - Labels Sub-Category.
-
If when equipment is added to a drawing, the Type tag property of the equipment is to be automatically copied from the first letter of the folder in which the equipment symbol is located, the USER_EQUIPLETTERFROMFOLDER user-defined directive in the Miscellaneous – Settings Sub-Category should be set to ‘Yes’ (the default setting).
-
Whether or not auto-labelling is on by default is set in the Miscellaneous - Labels Sub-Category pane.
Procedure
Add or Edit a Standard Equipment Label
-
Use this procedure to label equipment with a standard equipment label, or when editing the properties of equipment. For new equipment, the procedure may start automatically if auto-labelling for equipment is on. If this is the case, the AVEVA P&ID Equipment Properties dialog displays automatically when the equipment is placed on the drawing.
If auto-labelling is not on, or to edit an existing label, start the procedure by either:
-
selecting the symbol to be labelled on The Drawing Page, then selecting Properties from the shortcut menu, or
-
selecting the symbol to be labelled in the Engineering Explorer, then selecting Properties from the shortcut menu, or
-
selecting the Properties option in the Properties group of the Home tab.
Note: Labels can also be viewed using the Non-Modal Properties Dialog, but tags cannot be directly entered into this dialog. Other details can be entered or changed however, and the drawing labelled with them.
-
-
If either for the first two methods of starting the procedure is followed, the AVEVA P&ID Equipment Properties dialog for the symbol is then displayed.
If the other method is followed, the Command prompt will display:
Select Item to Label, or Label to Modify:
Pick the item to be labelled, or to edit an existing label, pick the item label.
-
The AVEVA P&ID Equipment Properties dialog is then displayed:

Note: The Number field may be completed automatically. Refer to Automatic Tags. Automatically entered number fields may be manually overwritten if required.
Note: The Type field may be completed automatically.
Note: In this window, the user can search for the required values in all dropdown lists. For example, the user can ‘F’ in the dropdown field, and all the values in the associated list starting with ‘F’ will be shown in the dropdown.
Users can also type required values into such fields. -
The properties of the equipment can be completed by selecting another item of equipment of the same type. Select Yes from the Reference field then select the referenced or "parent" equipment from the Reference Equipment field.
The current equipment is then labelled with all the properties of the referenced object, including the tag properties, UDAs and DataSet values. Any properties already entered for the child object, including inherited properties, are replaced. These properties cannot be edited except by changing them for the parent equipment.
If the equipment is not to take its properties from a referenced item, enter the equipment label details and click OK.
-
The equipment can be labelled by selecting an annotation assembly. Select Yes from the Add Label field then select the referenced annotation assembly from the Assembly Name field.
If the equipment is not to be labelled by selecting an annotation assembly, select No from the Add Label field.
-
Select Yes in the Inheritance field if the item is to be subject to attribute inheritance from the sheet or the owning pipe. The Prefix, Type, Number and Suffix properties cannot be edited except by changing them for the parent equipment.
Select Yes - FIltering Suffix in the Inheritance field if the item is to be subject to attribute inheritance from the sheet or the owning pipe. The Prefix, Type and Number properties cannot be edited except by changing them for the parent equipment. The Suffix property can be edited.
Select Yes - FIltering Tag Letter and Suffix in the Inheritance field if the item is to be subject to attribute inheritance from the sheet or the owning pipe. The Prefix and Number properties cannot be edited except by changing them for the parent equipment. The Type and Suffix properties can be edited.
-
The Command prompt will display:
Position Equipment Label:
Place the label near the equipment item. If a symbol, such as a box, is set to be placed with the label, it will either be inserted automatically at the same time as the label, or the user will be prompted to place it, depending on the project settings.
-
The Command prompt will display:
Select Item to Label, or Label to Modify:
Pick another sub-equipment item to continue labelling, or press or select Enter to end the command.
Add a Custom Equipment Label
-
Use this procedure to add custom labels to equipment, instead of or in addition to standard labels.
Start the procedure by right-clicking on the equipment and selecting the Add Label option from the shortcut menu
-
The following menu is then displayed:

If the equipment is to be labelled a label in a non-default label format, select the Customize option. If the equipment is to be labelled with only a single property of the equipment, select that property, e.g. Type, from the menu.
-
If the Customize option is selected, the following dialog is displayed:

Select the Custom Label from the top list, then select the required format from table beneath the lists.
The top list also includes options to select a single property (select the Single Label option and then the required property, e.g. Type, from the list below it), or the default label format (select the Full Label option).
Click Add Label & Close to add the label and finish the procedure. Click Add Label if further labels are to be added to the pipe using the dialog.
-
After the label type has been selected, the Command prompt will then display:
Position Equipment Label:
Pick a point for the equipment label. The label is then placed.
If the Add Label & Close button was selected, the command then ends. If the Add Label button was selected, the above dialog is displayed again. Add further labels as described above.
Change a Referenced (Parent) Equipment Item
When the properties of equipment which is a referenced or parent item of equipment are changed, the following prompt will be displayed:

Click the Update Now link to update the properties of all the "child" equipment referencing the amended equipment. The changes to the parent equipment properties are then made to the child equipment properties.
