Draw Drain Pipes

This procedure is used to draw drain pipes, including continuation symbols.
Drain pipes are drawn in the current style and with the current tracing and end styles. These are set in the Pipeline group of the Home tab. Pipe styles are created and amended by selecting the Pipe Styles option in the List of Values Configuration Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program.

The drain pipe continuation symbol is specified using the Pipes - Drain Pipe Sub Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program.
Procedures
Draw New Drain Pipe

Start the procedure by selecting the Draw Drain Pipe option in the Pipeline group of the Home tab.

The Command prompt will display:
Specify action for drain pipe [Select pipe / Draw pipe / Insert Symbol / Create Branch / Exit] <Exit>:
Select "Draw pipe".

The Command prompt will then display:
Indicate point for main pipe:
Place one end of the drain pipe.

The Command prompt will then display:
Indicate point for main pipe:
Place other the end of the drain pipe or the first turning point. A preview of that segment of the pipe then appears on the drawing.

AVEVA P&ID will continue to prompt for end or turning points. Continue placing these until every segment of the pipe is drawn, then press Enter.
If auto-labelling for pipes is on, the Label Drain Pipes procedure will then start automatically. Auto-labelling is switched on and off using facilities in the Pipeline group of the Home tab.
Add Continuation Symbol

Start the procedure by selecting the Draw Drain Pipe option in the Pipeline group of the Home tab.

The Command prompt will display:
Specify action for drain pipe [Select pipe / Draw pipe / Insert Symbol / Create Branch /Exit] <Exit>:
Select "Select Pipe".

The Command prompt will then display:
Select pipe to extract pipe number:
Select the drain pipe with which the symbol is to be associated.

The Command prompt will then display:
Specify action for drain pipe [Select different pipe / Draw pipe / Insert Symbol / Annotation / Exit] <Exit>:
Select "Insert Pipe".

The Command prompt will then display:
Insertion point:
Pick the required insertion point. The symbol will then be placed. The above prompt will be displayed again. Place further continuation symbols if required, otherwise cancel the command.

By default, continuation symbols will be placed in a "Pipe Through" arrangement. To choose a different arrangement for a symbol, right-click on it and select the required arrangement from the menu that is then displayed:

As well as the "through" arrangement, users can specify the direction of the symbol (up or down), and its flow (in or out). For example, if the "Pipe-Up-Out" option is selected, the symbol will appear as follows:

Add Segments to an Existing Drain Pipe

Start the procedure by selecting the Draw Drain Pipe option in the Pipeline group of the Home tab.

Specify action for drain pipe [Select pipe / Draw pipe / Insert Symbol / Create Branch / Exit] <Exit>:
Select "Select Pipe".

The Command prompt will then display:
Select pipe to extract pipe number:
Select the drain pipe to be added to.

The Command prompt will then display:
Specify action for drain pipe [Select different pipe / Draw pipe / Insert Symbol / Annotation / Exit] <Exit>:
Select "Draw pipe".

The Command prompt will then display:
Indicate point for main pipe:
Add further pipe segments as described above. They can be placed anywhere on the drawing and need not be attached to the end of an existing segment.
