Re-colour Drawing Items based on User Defined Directives and Batch Export to PDF

In this example, it is required that pipes on the drawing are re-coloured based on an attribute value The re-coloured pipes will have a large line width applied to make them clearly visible on the drawing.The elements not affected by the colouring rules will be exported in monochrome mode when the PDF file is created.

The project includes two user defined directives which are assigned to colouring rules in the project. User defined directives are specified using the Miscellaneous - Settings Sub-Category of the AVEVA P&ID Project Administration program:

The USER_SETLINEWIDTHFORCOLORINGRULES user defined directive controls the line width of the re-coloured pipes.

The USER_SET_DRG_BACKGROUND_MONOCHROME user defined directive exports elements not affected by the colouring rules in monochrome mode.

To open the Colouring Utility from within AVEVA P&ID, select the Colouring option in the Colouring group of the Manage tab.

To open the Colouring Utility from the The Graphical User Interface, start it by clicking on the AVEVA P&ID 12.2.SP3 desktop shortcut. Refer to Open the AVEVA P&ID Colouring Utility for further information.

The Colouring dialog is then displayed:

Click Manage Rules to display the Colouring Rules dialog.

Create a rule to re-colour pipes with a plant code attribute value equal to 00 and 01.

Click Save to save the rule and close the Colouring Rules dialog.

On the Colouring dialog, click Apply. The colour changing operation then takes place. The progress bar and messages in the top part of the window indicate the progress of the procedure.

To stop the operation, click Cancel.

When a drawing has been processed successfully, a green tick is displayed in its Result field. A red cross is displayed if the drawing is processed with errors.

Once a drawing has been processed, details of errors and warnings can be viewed by selecting its View Log File.

To view a re-coloured drawing created by the process, click the appropriate View Drawing. The drawing is then displayed in a new window.

To batch export the re-coloured drawings to PDF format, from within AVEVA P&ID, select the Batch Export option in the Colouring group of the Manage tab.

To open a PDF file, navigate to the export output location.
