This procedure is used to add a new symbol to a drawing and then automatically extend a selected pipe to connect to that symbol by adding the required segment or segments.

For the procedure for adding new segments to either end of a pipe or signal line, refer to Add Pipe and Signal Line Segments. Another procedure is provided for adding new pipe segments from any point on a drawing, refer to Add Pipe Segments from any Point.

Note: Not applicable to drain pipes.

Procedure

  1. Start the procedure by selecting the Add Symbol at Point option in the Modify group of the Home tab.

If a pipe was not selected before the above option was selected, the user will now be prompted to pick a pipe.

  2. The Symbol List dialog is then displayed:

    Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

Select the symbol to be inserted and click OK.

  3. The Command prompt will then display:

    Insertion point:

Select the point on the drawing at which the symbol is to be added.

  4. The Command prompt will then display:

    Move pipe node [START/END]:

Select the pipe node (its start or end) that is to be extended to the inserted symbol.

  5. Finally, the Command prompt will then display:

Select port on new symbol to move end node:

Select a port on the inserted symbol to extend the pipe to.

Segments are then added from selected pipe node to connect the pipe to the selected symbol port.
