Drawings in the Explorer

In the explorer, drawings must be opened in order to view the items in it. This can be carried out using the Open option on the project shortcut menu.

Alternately, right-click on the drawing in the explorer and select the Open option from its shortcut menu.

Note: If Access by Area security is enabled for the project, only those drawings in areas to which the user has Full Access rights are listed in the explorer.
Users in the System Admin group have Full Access to all areas and therefore to all drawings.

Closed drawings are represented with the following symbol: Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE).

Open drawings are represented with the following symbol: Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE).

The shortcut (right-click) menu for open drawings is as follows:

  • The Refresh option is used to regenerate the Explorer hierarchy.

  • The Sort option that is used to sort all the items displayed in the Engineering Explorer according to their labels.

  • The Save, Save As and Close options are used to perform these actions on the selected drawing.

  • The Export to SVG option is used to export the selected drawing to an SVG file.

    When the drawing export is complete, a message is displayed. For example:

    Click on the link to open the SVG file using the default SVG viewer allocated to the host workstation.

  • The Save As Template option is used to save the selected drawing as an AutoCAD template (.dwt) file.

  • The Synchronise option is used to validate and export data on the drawing to P&ID Reports, refer to Export Data to a P&ID Reports Database.

  • The Insert Symbol option opens the Symbol Explorer, from which the required symbol can then be inserted (see Inserting Symbols).

  • The Properties option opens the Properties dialog for the selected item, which can be used to enter the labels and other details of the drawing or item. Refer to Properties Dialogs.
